Things You Can Do To Prevent Spam
Spam Filtering is the last line of defense when it comes to Spam and Virus emails. The old adage fits perfectly, "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure". So here are some tips and tricks you can use to prevent your email address from getting on the spammers list.
- Disposable Email Addresses: The quickest way to get your email address on the spammers list is to use it to sign up for/on websites. Most sites will sell and/or trade your email address. A way around this is to use a "Disposable Email Address". There are many services offering free, web-based, email addresses. These can be used to sign up for any website that requires an email address while keeping your primary email address clean. When the disposable address begins to get too much spam simply get a new one, and because it was "disposable" you do not have worry about your friends, family, and business contacts as they do not have to remember your new address.
- Avoid sequential addresses: When setting up a new domain, avoid large batches of email addresses of the format <someword><somenumber>@yourdomain.com. Spammers will start to notice this pattern and where as one address would be on the spammer list your entire domain is now on the list.
